Mission Description
Job Purpose:
To carry out both preventative and corrective maintenance on trucks and handling equipment for AGL Namibia and entities. Attend to breakdowns outside town when required. Guides apprentices (when assigned) on safe and correct work methods. Manufactures replacement parts/sections/components for repairs, and repairs & maintains equipment and structures by carrying out steel/metal cutting, welding, strengthening work inside or outside the workshop
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication, Welding & Maintenance
• Perform fabrication, welding, and structural repair work on trucks, trailers, handling equipment, and workshop infrastructure.
• Manufacture, modify, and install replacement components, structures, and assemblies from technical drawings, samples, or specifications.
• Cut, shape, bend, assemble, weld, grind, and finish steel, stainless steel, and aluminium components to required standards.
• Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance to improve equipment reliability and service life.
• Ensure all repairs and fabricated components comply with quality, safety, and operational standards.
• Work from technical drawings and specifications to produce accurate and durable solutions.
Breakdown & Field Support
• Respond to equipment and vehicle breakdowns both on-site and at remote locations when required.
• Assess faults, determine repair requirements, and safely execute repairs.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to supervisors.
• Support emergency maintenance and standby requirements to minimise equipment downtime.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Follow approved maintenance procedures, safe work practices, and company standards.
• Conduct worksite inspections and ensure work areas are safe before commencing tasks.
• Ensure equipment isolation and permit requirements are followed during hot work activities.
• Maintain high-quality workmanship and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Accurately record labour, materials, and repair details in maintenance systems and job cards.
Teamwork & General Duties
• Guide and mentor apprentices, assistants, and trainees in safe working methods and technical skills.
• Assist with basic rigging activities and lifting operations within authorised limits.
• Maintain workshop housekeeping standards and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored.
• Participate in standby and after-hours maintenance duties when required.
• Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to operational excellence.
Profile
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12 (Essential).
• National Trade Certificate (N3) in Boilermaking/Fabrication.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver's Licence.
• Valid Certificate of Conduct.
Experience
• Minimum 6 years post-trade experience in boilermaking, fabrication, welding, and structural repairs within a heavy industrial, transport, mining, port, or engineering workshop environment.
• Proven experience working with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium fabrication and repair.
• Experience in maintenance and repair of trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, or material handling equipment will be advantageous.
• Experience in welding processes, metal cutting, structural fabrication, and component replacement.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
