Mission Description
Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager – Mining is responsible for driving the growth of AGL's Mining business in Zimbabwe by identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic customer relationships and converting opportunities into profitable contracts.
The role will focus on expanding AGL's presence across the Mining sector by developing end-to-end logistics solutions, understanding customer requirements and positioning AGL as a strategic logistics partner throughout the Mining value chain.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & New Business Acquisition
• Develop and execute a Mining business development strategy for Zimbabwe, aligned with AGL's overall commercial strategy.
• Identify, qualify and develop new Mining business opportunities across Zimbabwe.
• Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects, opportunities and potential projects.
• Identify upcoming mining projects, mine expansions, construction projects and operational requirements.
• Develop relationships with Mining companies, contractors, EPCs, suppliers and other key industry stakeholders.
• Proactively identify customer logistics challenges and develop appropriate AGL solutions.
• Convert identified opportunities into profitable new business and long-term contracts.
• Develop opportunities across the Mining supply chain, including inbound logistics, transportation, warehousing, project logistics, heavy equipment, mining inputs and export flows.
2. Strategic Account Management
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key Mining customers.
• Develop Account Plans for strategic and high-potential Mining customers.
• Understand customer business strategies, operational requirements and future projects to identify additional business opportunities.
• Identify opportunities to increase AGL's share of wallet across existing customers.
• Conduct regular customer meetings, business reviews and commercial discussions.
• Act as a trusted commercial advisor and key point of contact for strategic Mining customers.
• Monitor customer satisfaction and proactively address commercial or service-related concerns.
3. Sales Pipeline & Commercial Performance
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Mining sales pipeline and opportunity forecast.
• Track opportunities from initial identification through qualification, proposal, negotiation and contract award.
• Develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts for Mining.
• Monitor revenue, margins and commercial performance of Mining accounts.
• Ensure opportunities are prioritised based on strategic value, revenue potential, profitability and probability of conversion.
• Provide regular business development and pipeline updates to Country and Regional Management.
• Identify risks, challenges and opportunities within the Mining portfolio and recommend appropriate actions.
Profile
. Tender & Proposal Management
• Lead the commercial development of Mining tenders, RFQs and RFPs in collaboration with the Bid Team.
• Develop customer-specific value propositions and commercial solutions.
• Coordinate with Operations, Projects, Finance and other relevant teams to ensure technically and commercially viable proposals.
• Ensure proposals clearly demonstrate AGL's capabilities, value proposition and competitive advantage.
• Lead commercial negotiations with customers and support contract finalisation.
• Ensure appropriate handover of newly awarded business to the Operations and Project teams.
5. Market Intelligence & Mining Sector Development
• Maintain a strong understanding of the Zimbabwean Mining market and its key players.
• Monitor new mining developments, mine expansions, construction projects and investment activity.
• Identify market trends, customer needs and competitor activity.
• Develop and maintain a network of key contacts across the Mining industry.
• Represent AGL at relevant Mining conferences, industry events and customer forums.
• Provide market intelligence to Management to support commercial and strategic decision-making.
6. Solution Development & Customer Value
• Work closely with Operations and Projects to develop practical and commercially viable logistics solutions.
• Identify opportunities to provide integrated, end-to-end logistics solutions.
• Develop solutions covering road transportation, warehousing, project logistics, heavy equipment, customs, freight forwarding, supply chain and export logistics, where applicable.
• Identify opportunities to leverage AGL's wider regional and international network to support Zimbabwean Mining customers.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, competitive and aligned with customer requirements.
7. Internal Collaboration & Business Handover
• Work closely with Operations, Projects, Finance, Bid Management and other internal stakeholders to develop and secure business.
• Ensure clear communication of customer requirements and commercial commitments.
• Facilitate effective handover from Business Development to Operations following contract award.
• Maintain strong collaboration with Regional Mining and Commercial teams where opportunities require cross-border or international support.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of AGL's Mining value proposition and commercial approach.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• 5–10+ years of proven experience in Business Development, Sales, Commercial Management or Key Account Management, preferably within logistics, transportation or supply chain.
• Proven experience and network within the Mining sector in Zimbabwe.
• Strong understanding of Mining logistics and the Mining supply chain.
• Demonstrated track record of winning new business and growing existing customer accounts.
• Experience managing complex B2B sales cycles, tenders and commercial negotiations.
