Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
Shift Manager will be responsible for the berth, yard, vessel, service desk and cargo control operations. Every issue that arises must first be dealt with on the shift manager level. You will manage the operations team with due regard to high productivity, safety and quality. To make certain that the terminals intended vision and direction is translated into a detailed action plan. You must effectively communicate this plan to every member of the team and assign specific accountability to each department and or individual.
Critical Success Factors
o Achieve average gross moves per quay crane of 35 GMPH.
o Achieve the highest possible berth production which must at a minimum meet the targets as established in the terminal/shipping line contracts.
o Achieve average 30-minute truck turn-round time
Main Objectives
• Manage, motivate and instruct all operational team members. Structure tasks and goals, establish efficient courses of action, set priorities, organize information, efficiently execute daily tasks with considerations to high productivity and efficient utilization of equipment and labor, with following concerns:
o Crane productivity
o Gate activity
o Vessel activity
o Inventory/Capacity
o Documentation
o Safety requirements
• Provide terminal presence by maintaining significant visibility in each part of the daily operation, whilst serving as primary informational contact for all members of the organisation.
• Communicate to the Operations Manager any potential issue concerning the operation. The reporting must be comprehensive in that every aspect of the operation is included; consistent in that each of the shift managers has the same information and correct in that the information must be completely accurate and error free.
• Ensure safe working conditions are kept.
• Provide regular process control checks and initiate and support performance improvement activities.
• Maintain and enhance relationships and goodwill with departments and external/internal customers and vendors. Advising, apprising, assisting, conferring and counselling with these on terminal issues and initiatives.
• Create and report ‘key performance indicators' (i.e. weekly, monthly, year to date terminal productivity) as defined by the Marine Manager.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
• A bachelor's degree in business administration, Operations Management, or a related field may be preferred, but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role in operations, manufacturing, logistics, or a related field.
• Prior experience as a team leader, supervisor, or shift leader in a similar industry is highly preferred.
• Strong background in managing shifts, coordinating teams, and ensuring productivity and quality control during assigned shifts.
• Experience with operational processes, resource allocation, and troubleshooting problems during shifts.
