Mission Description                      

Job Purpose:
The Business Development Representative is responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new transport and logistics business opportunities for AGL. The role focuses on expanding the customer base, increasing transport revenue, and supporting the company's growth objectives by developing tailored transport solutions for customers across various industries.
The incumbent will work closely with operations, fleet management, customer service, and management teams to ensure customer requirements are met while maintaining profitability and service excellence to ssuccessfully implement new business obtained and continue to build relationships and service clients.

Job Function:
Business Development & Sales
• Identify and target potential customers requiring transport and logistics services.
• Generate new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and market research.
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified transport opportunities.
• Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and site visits.
• Prepare and submit transport quotations, proposals, and tenders.
• Negotiate commercial agreements and service contracts.
• Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
• Customer Relationship Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
• Act as the primary point of contact for key transport customers.
• Understand customer supply chain and transportation requirements.
• Address customer concerns and coordinate resolutions with operational teams.
• Conduct regular business reviews with customers to identify growth opportunities.
Market Intelligence
• Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and pricing structures.
• Identify new transport lanes, industries, and business sectors for expansion.
• Analyse market demands and provide feedback to management.
• Support the development of competitive transport solutions.
Collaboration & Operations Support
• Work closely with transport planning and operations teams to ensure service commitments are achievable.
• Assist in developing efficient and cost-effective transport solutions.
• Support implementation of new customer accounts and service requirements.
• Ensure smooth handover of new business to operational teams.

Reporting & Administration
• Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
• Update CRM systems and sales reports regularly.
• Prepare weekly and monthly pipeline reports.
• Monitor sales performance against targets and KPIs.
• Assist with tender submissions and contract documentation.

Minimum Requirements
Education
• Matric, Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Marketing, or a related field.
• Additional sales or logistics qualifications will be advantageous.
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of business development or sales experience within the transport, freight, logistics, or supply chain industry.
• Proven track record of achieving sales targets and securing new business.
• Experience with contract negotiations and tender management.
• Knowledge of road transport operations and logistics solutions.
• Previous Clearing & Forwarding sales experience required
• Cross border and local transport sales experience
