Mission Description                      

The Reefer Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of refrigerated units (reefers) on trucks, trailers, and containers. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems to ensure that all reefer units are in optimal working condition. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and experience in refrigeration systems.

 

Profile

Job Function:
Repairs & Troubleshooting:
• Respond to service requests for reefer repair and troubleshooting, identifying issues and providing timely solutions.
• Perform system tests to identify malfunctions and ensure systems are operating within specified parameters.
• Conduct emergency repairs as needed, often under tight timelines, to minimize downtime.
Inspection & Testing:
• Conduct thorough inspections of refrigerated units, including checking refrigerant levels, electrical connections, and compressor performance.
• Test and calibrate temperature controls, pressure valves, and other critical components.
• Maintain records of inspections, maintenance work, and repairs completed.
Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed on the reefer units.
• Document all parts used during repairs and ensure inventory levels are managed to prevent shortages.
• Provide detailed reports on the condition of the units, identifying any recurring issues or potential areas for improvement.
Customer & Operational Support:
• Work closely with the logistics and fleet operations teams to ensure the timely and efficient functioning of all refrigerated units.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external clients to resolve any operational issues related to reefer units.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other team members as needed.



Desired Skills:
• Certification in refrigeration systems (e.g., EPA Certification for Refrigerants).
• Experience with diagnostic tools and refrigeration system testing equipment.
• Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments and handle physically demanding tasks.
• Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to refrigeration systems and general maintenance work.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in refrigeration, HVAC, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in servicing and maintaining refrigeration units or HVAC systems.
• Proven knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical circuits, and mechanical components.
• Experience in diagnosing and repairing issues in refrigerated trailers, containers, and trucks.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
